1964

BoG Sets Up Rural Credit Dept for Agri Bank
Bank of Ghana set up a Rural Credit Department to prepare the necessary legislation, plans and procedures for the establishment of a specialized bank for the provision and administration of credit and other banking facilities in the agricultural sector.

1965

ADB Established in 1965 as Agri Credit & Cooperative Bank
ADB was established by Act 286 in 1965 as the Agricultural Credit and Cooperative Bank. The Bank started operations from a building on the Tunisia Road, West Ridge - Accra.

1967

NLC Decree Renames Bank to Agricultural Development Bank
The National Liberation Council (NLC Decree 182) changed the name of the Bank from the Agricultural Credit and Cooperative Bank to the Agricultural Development Bank and amended key sections of the original Act 286.

1990

Expansion into International Banking and Trade Services
ADB diversified its operations by adding international banking and trade services to its growing product portfolio.

1993

Leadership in Remittances and Money Transfer Services
The Bank became the principal agent for inward money transfers and remittances in Ghana.

2004

Universal Banking License Granted
ADB obtained its Universal Banking license, significantly broadening its range of banking services.

2006

Relocation of Head Office
The Head Office was moved from Cedi House to ADB House on 37 Independence Avenue, Accra.

2009

Strategic Restructuring and Repositioning
Under new management, the Bank underwent a restructuring programme to reposition itself by balancing market orientation with a strong development focus on agriculture and related sectors.

2011

Branch Network Expansion and Card Services Launch
The branch network expanded from 55 to 78 fully networked branches nationwide, supported by a robust ICT platform. The Bank also introduced the ADB Visa Classic Card, enabling customers to transact globally.

2011

Major Awards and Continental Recognition
ADB won the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Bank of the Year Award for two consecutive years (2010 and 2011), alongside over a dozen international silver awards, including the International Star Award for Quality. The Bank’s continental ranking rose by 24 places among Africa’s leading commercial banks.

2012

Groundbreaking for Accra Financial Centre
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 4, 2012, for the construction of the state-of-the-art Accra Financial Centre, designated as the Bank’s ultimate Head Office.

Launch of New Corporate Identity – “Beyond Banking”
ADB unveiled a new Corporate Identity and Brand Positioning, 'Beyond Banking', reflecting its renewed commitment to innovation, enhanced customer experience, and leadership in agricultural transformation.
