ADB Presents GHS1 Million Ultimate Cash Prize to 2024 National Best Farmer

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana’s agricultural transformation by presenting a One Million Ghana Cedi(GHS1,000,000) cash prize to Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong, the 2024 National Best Farmer. The presentation was done in a ceremony at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture earlier this month.

Representing the Bank was the Deputy Managing Director in charge of operations, Mrs. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante, supported by the General Manager for Agribusiness, Mr. Kwame Asiedu Attrams, and other management team.

The prize, the ultimate and highest award under the annual National Farmers’ Day programme, recognises Nana Brempong’s outstanding contributions to Ghana’s agricultural development and his commitment to innovation and community impact. The occasion reinforced the Bank’s long-standing role as the financial backbone of Ghana’s agricultural sector, a responsibility it has upheld since the inception of the awards.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, commended ADB for its unwavering support for the National Best Farmer award, a sponsorship it has proudly maintained since 2001. “ADB’s consistent partnership remains a cornerstone in our efforts to reward excellence and motivate Ghanaian farmers,” the Minister stated.

Describing the ceremony as “more than just prize-giving,” Hon. Opoku reiterated the government’s dedication to transforming the agricultural sector through the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) and its flagship Feed Ghana Programme.

Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director (Edward Ato Sarpong), Mrs. Sylvia Nyante (Deputy Managing Director, operations) reaffirmed ADB’s Beyond Banking commitment. “This award is not just about recognising one farmer,” she said. “It reflects our long-term vision to support the entire value chain, modernising agriculture, and creating lasting impact within communities and the nation as a whole,” she added.

Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong expressed deep gratitude to ADB and MOFA for the honour, and pledge to use the funds to empower his community.

As the Bank continues to evolve with the times, its legacy as a trusted partner to Ghanaian farmers remains unchanged, empowering agriculture, enabling growth, and driving national development Beyond Banking.
